I went back to the gym yesterday for the first time in a couple of month. I wish I would remember how painful it can be going back to the gym after taking an extended break. I suspect if I did I would have taken a shorter time off. I have a valid, if somewhat weak, reason for taking time off – after my 10 km sponsored run in April I had a pinched nerve in my foot which needed rested. I think 11 weeks might have been too long though.
I managed to do the full cardio workout I usually do, just with my speed a little slower on the treadmill and my resistance turned down on the cycling machine. I didn’t feel that great during the workout though as I picked up a stitch within the first five minutes running.
Of course the next challenge is to get out running on Sunday. After my 10km run I made two new routes around Queensferry for running. Both these routes are around 10 km long so with the weather’s agreement I will be trying one of them out. Wish me luck!
